bet365 vs William Hill in two paragraphs

These are two of the biggest names in UK betting, and on paper they offer almost the same toolkit. Each has a football acca boost, a bet builder, cash out, live streaming, best odds guaranteed and extra places on selected races. The differences hide in the detail of each feature, and in how the two businesses are owned and run.

One row in the table below needs careful reading. William Hill is in the odds feed we record daily, so its football margin is measured and counts towards its rating. bet365 sits outside that feed, so its rating rests on five of our seven criteria, with the weight of price and coverage shared among the remaining five.

Football accas: two versions of the acca boost

William Hill publishes the more detailed acca boost. It starts on football accas of just two legs, provided every selection is priced at 1/5 or bigger, and the percentage climbs with each extra leg. The steepest rises come on very long accas, which almost never land, so the boost does its most useful work on four or five legs.

bet365 also adds a percentage to qualifying football accas, and its two goals ahead early payout settles a match-result bet as a winner once your team leads by two. William Hill replies with Build #YourOdds, its bet builder, and the #YourOdds hashtag for asking traders on X to price a bet.

Cash out is where William Hill falls short for acca builders. Full cash out is offered, but partial cash out is not, so you cannot bank part of a winning acca and let the rest ride. If you like trimming positions mid-afternoon, that gap weighs more in the bet365 vs William Hill decision than any boost percentage.

A side point on any acca boost: it lifts the winnings, yet every leg still carries its bookmaker’s margin, and those margins multiply as legs are added. Our acca guide works through the arithmetic. A modest boost on four fairly priced legs is usually a better deal than a headline percentage on twelve.

Horse racing extras compared

Both bookmakers pay best odds guaranteed on horse racing, and both add extra places on selected races. At William Hill the concession covers UK and Irish racing and you opt in to it once. Do that on the day you open the account, because a winner that drifts before the off is otherwise settled at the price you took.

bet365 pays the starting price whenever it beats your taken price, and its free 6 Horses Challenge asks for the winners of six races with no stake at all. Its streams open to funded accounts or anyone who has bet in the past 24 hours. William Hill TV shows selected racing alongside football, basketball and tennis.

Neither racing book is part of our measurements, because our odds snapshots cover football only. With two extra-place bookmakers available, the sensible routine before a big handicap is to check how many places each pays, then compare prices. One extra place in a crowded field can be worth more to an each way backer than a fractionally bigger price.

The welcome offers, and a betting app quirk

Here the two part ways sharply. The William Hill welcome offer cannot be claimed through its betting app, in a shop or by phone: you register and place the qualifying single on the website. At bet365 the qualifying bet simply has to settle at the minimum odds in its terms, without being cashed out or voided along the way.

William Hill’s qualifying single must be placed from cash funds at 1/2 or bigger, and accounts funded by PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafe or the PLUS card are excluded. bet365 also shuts out some deposit methods. The safe route at both is the same: pay in with a debit card, place the qualifying bet, then switch methods later.

Once credited, the free bets behave alike. They last seven days at both, the stake never comes back on a winner, and William Hill adds that each free bet must be used as one stake. No wagering applies at either. The amounts and short terms are in the table above, so compare those boxes before signing up.

Payout speed and payment methods

bet365 pays faster to the right card. A Visa debit that supports Visa Direct usually receives money within two hours there, against up to four hours at William Hill. Other debit cards take one to three days at both. William Hill pays PayPal and other e-wallets within 24 hours, while its bank transfers take the longest of any route.

The deposit menus differ in a few places. William Hill accepts Skrill and Neteller, and bet365 takes Google Pay. Withdrawals at William Hill go back to a debit card, PayPal or a bank account; bet365 can also return money to Apple Pay and paysafecard. Credit cards are barred from gambling in the UK, so neither cashier accepts them.

William Hill keeps one card that bet365 cannot match: the PLUS card, which ties your online account to the high street shops. For a punter who still spends Saturday afternoon at the counter, that link is a real convenience. Just keep it apart from the welcome offer, because a PLUS card deposit disqualifies the account.

The betting app and customer support

On the App Store both apps rate highly; on Google Play bet365 pulls clearly ahead, and the live figures sit in the table. The one thing the William Hill betting app cannot do is take the welcome offer, which says more about the terms than about the software. Everything after registration, from Build #YourOdds to streams, works normally there.

Both run live chat day and night. At William Hill a chatbot handles most conversations first, with X and an email route for escalating complaints. bet365 adds a phone line, email and direct messages on X. Keep complaints in writing; eight weeks without a fix lets you take it to the free dispute service named in the terms.

Owners, licences and regulatory records

bet365 is owned privately by the Coates family and has no stock market listing. Its UK licensee is Hillside (UK Sports) ENC, account 55148, based in Malta. William Hill belongs to Evoke plc, formerly 888 Holdings, and is licensed through WHG (International) Limited, account 39225, in Gibraltar. Both entries are on the public register.

Evoke has agreed an all-share takeover by Bally’s Intralot, which Evoke shareholders approved in August 2026; completion was still pending when we updated this page. Accounts and balances sit with the licensee, so customers see no overnight change. A new owner could reshape promotions later, and we will revisit this bet365 vs William Hill comparison when the deal closes.

In bet365 vs William Hill, both licensees have Gambling Commission cases behind them. bet365’s sports licensee agreed a settlement in April 2024 over anti-money-laundering and customer-interaction failings. William Hill’s record is heavier: its licensee paid £12.5m in March 2023 as part of a record £19.2m package, then an £82,687 penalty in August 2025 over customer identification checks.

Safer gambling: whose tool kit is wider

bet365 lists more tools. Alongside deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, it offers stake limits, reality checks and a profit and loss totaliser that shows how betting is going over time. William Hill provides deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. Every licensed bookmaker, both included, must ask you to set a financial limit before your first deposit.

The 2023 case matters here. The Commission found that 331 customers who had self-excluded with Mr Green, then in the same group, could still gamble with William Hill. That is a strong argument for GamStop, which both licensees join: one registration covers every licensed online site, so a break never rests on one company’s checks.

bet365 vs William Hill: the verdict

Pick William Hill if you place short football accas and want a boost from the second leg, if you still visit betting shops and value the PLUS card link, or if you like asking traders for a custom price. Its football margin is measured in our data, so you can judge its prices before opening an account.

Pick bet365 if fast payouts matter most, if you bet in-play across several sports, or if a wider set of safer-gambling tools appeals. Phone-only punters will find its welcome offer simpler to claim. Racing fans can happily hold both, since each pays best odds guaranteed and extra places, and comparing their morning prices costs nothing but a minute.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is bet365 or William Hill better for accas?

Both add an acca boost to qualifying football accumulators. William Hill publishes the detail: the boost starts on two-leg accas with every selection at 1/5 or bigger and rises with each leg. bet365 pairs its boost with an early payout when a team goes two goals ahead.

Can I claim the William Hill welcome offer in the app?

No. Its terms exclude the mobile app, shops and telephone betting, so you register and place the qualifying single on the website. After that the app works normally for everything else.

Which is faster to withdraw, bet365 or William Hill?

bet365 usually pays a Visa Direct card within two hours, while William Hill quotes up to four hours. Other debit cards take one to three days at both, and William Hill pays e-wallets within 24 hours.

Does William Hill offer partial cash out?

No. William Hill offers full cash out only, so you cannot take part of a winning bet and leave the rest running. Punters who trim accas regularly should keep that in mind.

Who will own William Hill after the takeover?

Evoke plc, which owns William Hill, has agreed an all-share takeover by Bally's Intralot. Evoke shareholders approved it in August 2026, and completion was still pending when this page was updated.

Have bet365 and William Hill been fined by the Gambling Commission?

Yes. bet365's sports licensee agreed a settlement in April 2024. William Hill's licensee paid £12.5m in March 2023 as part of a record £19.2m package and a further £82,687 penalty in August 2025.

How is bet365 rated without a measured football margin?

bet365 is not in the odds feed we record, so we rate it on five of our seven criteria. The weight of price and market coverage is shared across racing, payments, safer-gambling tools, the welcome offer and the app.

Do bet365 and William Hill both offer extra places?

Yes, on selected horse races, and both pay best odds guaranteed as well. At William Hill the best odds concession covers UK and Irish racing and has to be switched on once.
