Our Sky Bet review verdict in brief
Sky Bet has been a household name since 2002, when Surrey Sports took on the Sky brand, and it still feels built for weekends. Saturday football accas and racing from British and Irish courses are where it is strongest. The menus are clean, the bet builder (called BuildABet) is easy to use, and in-play markets cover the main sports.
The reservations in our Sky Bet review are practical. You cannot pay in with PayPal, Skrill or Neteller, so anyone who keeps betting money in an e-wallet needs a different routine here. And the welcome deal rewards one small qualifying stake and nothing more, so bigger bettors gain little from it.
Who runs Sky Bet today: the October 2025 licence move
The company behind your account changed last autumn. On 6 October 2025 the Gambling Commission licensed SBG Sports Limited, based in St Julian’s, Malta, under account 67370. On 31 October 2025 the previous licensee, Bonne Terre Limited of Leeds, surrendered all its remote licences. Both steps are recorded on the Commission’s public register.
For customers almost nothing changed. The brand, the website and the app are the same, and Sky Bet remains part of Flutter Entertainment, which also owns Paddy Power and Betfair. One oddity remains: the App Store listing still names Bonne Terre as the seller. That is a store detail and does not affect which company holds your money.
Flutter keeps its brands on separate licences. Paddy Power and the Betfair sportsbook sit with PPB Counterparty Services, while Sky Bet has its own licensee. The practical upshot is simple: a dispute about your Sky Bet account goes to SBG Sports, never to the company that runs your Paddy Power account, even though one group owns both.
Ownership matters because the licensee is the company the regulator can act against and the one you complain to. If a dispute with Sky Bet goes unresolved for eight weeks, you can take it to the independent dispute service named in its terms, and that service must be free for you to use under the Commission’s complaints rules.
Sky Bet free bets and the sign up offer, in plain English
The box above shows the current sign up offer and its short terms. Stripped down, it works like this: register, place one bet of the stated size at evens or bigger within 30 days, and Sky Bet credits a set of free bets plus a Ghost Leg token, both listed in the box.
The key rule is the usual one. Free bets are not cash and cannot be withdrawn, and when one wins, the stake is kept back and only the winnings are paid. Skrill and Neteller deposits do not qualify, which matters less here than elsewhere, because Sky Bet no longer takes e-wallets from new customers anyway. Virtual sports are excluded too.
What does that mean in money terms? Split across several smaller free bets, the reward lets you try different markets, but each one returns only its profit. Used on selections around evens, a set of free bets returns noticeably less than its face value over time. That is still decent for a modest qualifying stake.
The wider rules changed this year. Since January 2026 a sign up offer in Great Britain can only reward one type of gambling, so the old pattern of free bets bundled with casino spins has gone. Any wagering requirement on a bonus is capped at ten times, and the Sky Bet free bets carry no wagering multiple at all.
Racing at Sky Bet: extra places and best odds guaranteed
For our Sky Bet review, racing is where the bookmaker earns its name. Best odds guaranteed applies on UK and Irish horse racing, so a bigger starting price than the one you took is paid at the bigger figure. Sky Bet also says it runs more extra-place races than any other bookmaker, a claim central to its racing pitch.
Extra places change the maths of an each way bet. If a race normally pays three places and Sky Bet pays five, your place stake gets two more chances. For anyone who backs outsiders in big handicaps, that is the most valuable thing on the site. Our best odds guaranteed guide explains how the concession works in detail.
Live streaming focuses on UK and Irish racing and needs a qualifying bet of at least £1 on the race. That is a fair condition for regular racing punters. If you only watch occasionally, a free-to-air channel will show the big races, but for midweek cards at smaller courses the Sky Bet stream is a genuine convenience.
Football prices in this Sky Bet review
Our daily odds snapshots include Sky Bet, so the file above shows its measured football margin and how it compares with the rest of the bookmakers we track. The margin is the bookmaker’s built-in edge on a match-result market. A lower figure means fairer prices, and the full league-by-league picture sits in our margin tables.
AccaFreeze is the football feature worth knowing. On an accumulator of five or more selections, you can lock in one winning leg, and that leg then counts as a winner whatever happens next. It suits punters who build big Saturday accas and want some control over them once the matches have started.
RequestABet lets you ask the traders for a price on a bet that is not on the menu. They will not price everything, but it is a quick way to back a specific combination. Combined bets of any kind tend to carry a bigger margin than a single match result, so keep them as a side interest.
One pattern in our data is worth carrying to any bookmaker: margins widen as you move down the leagues. A League Two match usually carries a bigger edge than a Premier League game, because fewer people bet on it and the bookmaker prices in more uncertainty. Check the competition filter in the tables before assuming one price level applies everywhere.
Paying in and getting paid
Deposits work by debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Withdrawals go to a debit card, a bank account or Apple Pay. A Visa debit card through Visa Fast Funds usually receives money within two hours, while standard debit card withdrawals take two to five banking days. Credit cards are banned for gambling in Great Britain, and Sky Bet accepts none.
The short payment list is the clearest weakness in this Sky Bet review. It is no problem for most people, since nearly everyone holds a debit card, but punters who like the separation an e-wallet gives will miss it. If fast access matters, register a Visa debit card and check that your bank supports Fast Funds.
The app, Super 6 and support
Both app stores rate the Sky Bet app highly, and the file above shows the current scores. In use it is quick, with BuildABet and AccaFreeze easy to find on the bet slip. Super 6, the free-to-play score prediction game, sits inside the same app and asks you to call six results for a jackpot, with no stake needed.
Support runs through live chat around the clock, an online contact form, a phone line on 0330 024 4777 and social media. Live chat is the quickest route for account questions in our experience of UK bookmakers generally. Keep a note of any reference number you receive, because you will need it if a complaint later moves to dispute resolution.
Safer-gambling tools and limits
Every account can be self-excluded, and the licensee is a participating company in GamStop, the free national scheme that blocks you from all licensed online gambling for six months, a year or five years. Remember that a GamStop exclusion does not end by itself; after the minimum period you must contact the scheme to lift it.
Limits are now part of signing up. Since 31 October 2025 every licensed bookmaker must prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, and since 30 September 2026 operators must offer gross deposit limits over 24 hours, seven days and a month. Use the shortest period that fits how you bet, and review it every few months.
Who Sky Bet suits, and who should look elsewhere
The Sky Bet review verdict is easiest for racing fans. Pick it if racing is your main interest, especially each way betting, or if you like building football accas and want AccaFreeze in reserve. It also suits punters who value a simple app over a huge menu of niche sports, and its free games cost nothing.
Look elsewhere if you insist on paying with PayPal, or if you bet big enough that a welcome reward built around a small stake makes no difference. In that case, a bookmaker with fast e-wallet payouts will serve you better. For a racing-first punter with a Visa debit card, though, Sky Bet is hard to beat.
Frequently asked questions
Who owns Sky Bet?
Sky Bet belongs to Flutter Entertainment, the group that also owns Paddy Power and Betfair. Since October 2025 its UK licence has been held by SBG Sports Limited, a Malta-based company, under Gambling Commission account 67370.
Why did Sky Bet change its licence holder?
The Gambling Commission register shows SBG Sports Limited licensed on 6 October 2025, and the old licensee, Bonne Terre Limited, surrendering its remote licences on 31 October 2025. The brand, site and app stayed the same.
Can I use PayPal with Sky Bet?
No. Sky Bet does not accept PayPal, Skrill or Neteller from new customers. You can deposit with a debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and withdraw to a debit card, bank account or Apple Pay.
How quickly does Sky Bet pay out?
Withdrawals to a Visa debit card through Visa Fast Funds usually arrive within two hours. Standard debit card withdrawals take two to five banking days, depending on your bank.
Are Sky Bet free bet stakes returned?
No. When a Sky Bet free bet wins you receive the winnings without the stake. Free bets also cannot be withdrawn as cash, so they only have value once you place them on a market and they win.
What is Sky Bet AccaFreeze?
AccaFreeze lets you lock in one winning leg on an accumulator of five or more selections. Once frozen, that selection is treated as a winner whatever happens later, while the rest of the acca carries on.
Does Sky Bet have best odds guaranteed?
Yes. On UK and Irish horse racing, Sky Bet pays the bigger of the price you took and the starting price. It also runs extra places on a large number of races.
What is Sky Bet Super 6?
Super 6 is a free-to-play football game. You predict the scores of six matches without placing a bet, and the game carries a jackpot.
Can I ask Sky Bet for a price on a bet that is not listed?
Yes, through RequestABet. You describe the bet you want and the traders may price it. Not every request gets a price, and the request route does not change the normal betting rules.
