Compare betting sites with the picker
To compare betting sites here, choose one name in each drop-down menu and the two sit side by side, redrawn at once from the data behind our reviews. The menus hold every bookmaker in our ranking plus the exchanges we track. The default pairing is bet365 against the Betfair Sportsbook; change either menu to start a comparison of your own.
What each row measures
The first row is our rating out of ten, with the site’s place in the ranking. It rests on seven weighted criteria: measured football price at 30%, racing and extras and payments at 15% each, and safer-gambling tools, the welcome offer, market coverage and app ratings at 10% apiece. A UKGC licence is the entry condition, never a scoring item.
Next come two margin rows. The football figure is the median margin across every match-result book we recorded for that site, with its place among all measured books; the second row narrows it to the Premier League. A margin is the edge built into the prices, so a lower number means a punter keeps more of each pound staked.
Exchanges add a commission row. Smarkets and Betfair Exchange take a share of net winnings on each market instead of building an edge into the odds, and our margin figures already deduct that standard rate from their prices. The deduction is what lets an exchange sit beside a fixed-odds bookmaker in the same row without flattering either one.
The yes-or-no rows cover best odds guaranteed, extra places, cash out, bet builder and live streaming. Withdrawals gives the payout times each site states for its main methods. The two app rows quote current App Store and Google Play scores, and the last row names the licensed company with its account number on the Gambling Commission register.
How to read two sites side by side
A highlighted cell marks the better figure, and only where one is measurably better: a higher rating, a lower margin, a stronger app score. Text rows such as withdrawals or the welcome offer carry no highlight, because a two-hour card payout and a one-hour e-wallet payout suit different people. Judge those rows against your own habits.
A row appears only when both sides have a value for it. Pair bet365 with anyone and the margin rows vanish, since bet365 sits outside the odds feed we record; its rating uses the other five criteria, with the weight of price and coverage spread across them. The same rule hides the commission row whenever two bookmakers meet.
Treat the margin rows as a cost and never as a forecast. A lower margin does not make any single bet more likely to land; it means the price you take sits closer to the fair odds for that outcome. Across a season of weekly football bets, a gap of a point or two adds up to real pounds.
Where the numbers come from
Every day we capture match-result and totals odds across English and Scottish football: the Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two, Scottish Premiership, FA Cup and EFL Cup. Each book’s margin uses the last price before kick-off, single quotes implying more than 30% are dropped as stale, and exchange prices are reduced by their standard commission before measuring.
Racing, darts and snooker prices sit outside the measurement, so for those sports the table relies on stated features. Ratings and margins are rebuilt every week, app scores carry the date they were checked, and offers change whenever an operator changes them. The stamp underneath shows how many fixtures and days of odds lie behind the figures above.

For five popular pairings we compare betting sites in more depth than any table allows. Each article opens with the same live data, then works through commission or welcome offers, racing extras, payments, apps and safer gambling, and ends with a plain view on which kind of punter each site suits better.
- Smarkets vs Betfair: two exchanges, two commission models
- bet365 vs Betfair: a full sportsbook against the Betfair Sportsbook and its exchange
- Ladbrokes vs bet365: two racing-minded bookmakers with very different owners
- bet365 vs William Hill: card payouts, acca boosts and racing extras
- Ladbrokes vs William Hill: two high-street names, both with measured prices
The Smarkets and Betfair page is the odd one out, because both are exchanges and the real contest is commission against liquidity. The other four set fixed-odds bookmakers against each other, and three of them include bet365, so the price rows drop out and the decision rests on racing concessions, payout speed, the apps and the welcome terms.
When to compare betting sites in the UK
The best moment to compare betting sites is before you deposit, while switching costs nothing. Line up two candidates side by side and start with what you bet on most. A Saturday accumulator punter should weigh acca extras and the football margin, a racing fan best odds guaranteed and extra places, and a trader commission and liquidity.
Safer-gambling tools matter too. Since 31 October 2025 every licensed operator has had to ask new customers to set a financial limit before the first deposit, and since 30 September 2026 gross deposit limits have been compulsory. Those rules apply everywhere in the UK, so the differences lie in extras such as loss limits, reality checks and stake limits.
Welcome offers are what most people look at first and should weigh last. Free bets pay the winnings without the stake, they usually expire within days, and some deposit methods rule you out. Since 19 January 2026 the Gambling Commission has capped wagering on any bonus at ten times its value, which keeps even generous-looking terms within limits.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compare two betting sites?
Choose one site in each drop-down menu above the table. The rows redraw straight away, and a highlighted cell shows which of the two has the better figure where one can be measured.
Which betting sites can I compare here?
Every bookmaker in our ranking and the betting exchanges we track, including Smarkets and Betfair Exchange. All of them hold a current Gambling Commission licence.
Why do some rows disappear when I pick bet365?
bet365 is not carried by the odds feed we record each day, so it has no measured margin. A row only appears when both sites have a value, so the margin rows drop out for any pairing with bet365.
Can I compare a bookmaker with a betting exchange?
Yes. Exchange prices are measured after their standard commission is deducted, so an exchange and a fixed-odds bookmaker can sit in the same margin rows on equal terms.
What does the football margin row mean?
It is the median edge built into a site's match-result prices across the fixtures we recorded. A lower figure means the prices sit closer to fair odds, so less of every stake goes to the house.
How often is the comparison table updated?
Ratings and margins are rebuilt weekly from the latest odds. App ratings and welcome offers carry the date on which they were last checked in each review.
Does a lower margin mean I will win more bets?
No. A margin describes the price, not the result. A lower margin means a winning bet pays a little more, but it does not change how likely any outcome is.
Are horse racing prices included in the comparison?
No. Our odds measurement covers football only. For racing the table shows features such as best odds guaranteed and extra places, which matter more on a race card.
