How we choose the best betting app
The table sorts licensed UK bookmakers by one thing: the average of their ratings on the App Store and Google Play, both read from the British storefronts. Those are lifetime averages built from thousands of customer reviews, so a single bad update rarely moves them much. We read every figure on the same day for a fair comparison.
App scores count for 10% of our overall bookmaker rating. Price on football, from our own odds snapshots, carries 30%, so a bookmaker can sit high in this table and lower in our main ranking. If you mostly bet from your phone, this list is the better guide to the best betting app for you. Price hunters should check both.
We left exchanges out of this ranking because the table shows bookmakers you would open an account with for fixed-odds bets. The figures come from the same store pages anyone can open, and the component above renders the current values. When a store rating shifts, the table changes with it at the next refresh of the site.
What the store ratings show
Most of the big names score well on Apple’s store, with very little between them at the top. Google Play is where the field spreads out. For nearly every bookmaker we checked, the Android rating sits below the iPhone figure, and in a few cases the gap is large enough to suggest a weaker Android build.
BetVictor is the clearest example. Its iPhone app rates among the best in the table, yet its Android app scores far lower, with a much smaller pool of reviews. BoyleSports sits at the bottom of both stores by some distance. If you use an Android phone, those two scores deserve more weight than the marketing on the download page.
Betfred is the opposite case: its App Store and Google Play scores are almost identical. The bet365 app has by far the largest number of ratings, which makes its average the hardest to move. Midnite scores strongly on both stores, and some review sites still claim it has no Android app. Google Play lists one, updated in October 2026.
Small samples deserve caution. The LeoVegas UK app is branded as a casino app, its sportsbook is a smaller section inside it, and it has only a few hundred ratings in each store. A score built from a few hundred reviews can swing quickly, so we treat it as a weaker signal than those of the big sports apps.
A side point that says something about the industry: Sky Bet’s App Store listing still names Bonne Terre Ltd as the seller. The betting licence moved to SBG Sports Ltd, based in Malta, in October 2025, and the Leeds company surrendered its account at the end of that month. Store listings often trail behind changes in the company structure.
A star rating is a blunt tool, so read the recent reviews as well. Look at the date of the last update, the version history and what one-star reviewers complain about. Complaints about withdrawals or verification tell you about the bookmaker, while complaints about crashes and log-outs tell you about the app itself.
Features worth checking in a UK betting app
Every app in the ranking offers in-play betting, cash out and a bet builder, so the differences sit in the detail. Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Coral, BetVictor and Midnite offer partial cash out as well as full. William Hill offers full cash out only, says Football Ground Guide. Partial cash out banks part of a bet and leaves the rest running.
Live streaming varies more than most punters expect. William Hill shows selected racing, football, basketball and tennis on William Hill TV. BetVictor streams football, tennis, basketball and racing to funded accounts. Coral covers UK and Irish racing, football and major tennis. Almost every app asks for a funded account or a qualifying bet before the picture appears.
Log-in matters on a phone more than on a laptop. Check in the store listing whether the app supports Face ID or fingerprint log-in, because typing a password at the turnstiles is how bets get missed. Biometric log-in also keeps others out of your account if your phone is borrowed, provided only your own face or finger is registered.
Payment methods on the phone tend to be quicker. At bet365 you can deposit with Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Coral’s help centre lists open banking among its methods. Watch the welcome terms, though: several bookmakers exclude Apple Pay, PayPal or other e-wallets from the qualifying deposit. Betfred removed PayPal, Skrill, Neteller and Paysafecard altogether in January 2026.
Football betting in apps
Football is where the best betting app earns its place on your home screen. In-play markets move every few seconds, and an app that freezes when a goal goes in costs you the price you wanted. The ratings help here, because slow or crashing apps attract one-star reviews quickly, especially on busy weekends and big European nights.
Bet builders are the most used football feature on phones. Sky Bet calls its version BuildABet, William Hill uses Build #YourOdds and Betfred runs #PickYourPunt. Sky Bet also takes requests through RequestABet, and Paddy Power and William Hill take requests on X through #WhatOddsPaddy and #YourOdds. The traders decide whether to price them.
Player bets have their own quirks. At bet365 a player bet carries over to the substitute under Sub On Play On, and Paddy Power does the same with Super Sub. These matter if you back a player to score or be booked and he is replaced early. Our football betting sites page covers the prices behind those markets.
A football app also needs good settlement. Ladbrokes pays a match bet early under 2UP when your team goes two goals ahead, and bet365 runs 2 Goals Ahead Early Payout. Acca insurance at Paddy Power, Ladbrokes and Betfred returns a stake as a free bet when one leg loses. All of this shows on the bet slip in the app.
Racing on the phone
Racing punters use apps differently. The race is over in minutes, so a bet has to go on quickly and the stream has to start without a fight. Sky Bet streams mainly UK and Irish racing once you have a bet of at least £1 on the race, and bet365 opens its streams to funded accounts.
Best odds guaranteed works the same in an app as on a desktop, though some firms make you opt in first. William Hill’s concession is opt-in according to Racing Post, so tick the box in the app before the first race. Our horse racing betting sites page compares the racing terms in more detail.
The app small print on welcome offers
Not every offer works in the app. William Hill’s full terms, as reported by Racing Post, say its welcome offer is not available via the mobile app, in shops or by telebetting. A punter who downloads the app first and registers there may miss the offer, so read the terms in the ranking box before you sign up.
Free bets in apps work like free bets anywhere. The stake is not returned with any winnings, there is an expiry date and there are minimum odds. Since 19 January 2026 a sign-up offer in Great Britain can only reward betting, so you will no longer see a football free bet bundled with casino spins on the same promotion.
Safer-gambling tools in the best betting app
Even the best betting app makes betting easier, so its limit tools matter. Since 31 October 2025 every licensed operator must ask you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, and must remind you every six months to review your account activity. The Gambling Commission sets these rules for every brand in the table.
Since 30 September 2026 operators must offer gross deposit limits, which count all the money you pay in and ignore withdrawals. Periods of 24 hours, seven days and a month must be available. At Ladbrokes and Coral a lower limit applies at once, while a higher one takes 24 hours and needs your confirmation.
Some apps go further than the minimum. Bet365 offers stake limits, reality checks and a profit and loss totaliser. BetVictor offers time-outs from 24 hours to six weeks. BoyleSports lists a budgeting tool and a link to BetBlocker, which blocks gambling sites on your device. Spend two minutes finding these settings before you place a bet.
Self-exclusion works across apps too. GamStop is free and covers every online operator licensed in Great Britain, so one registration blocks every app in this table. You choose six months, one year or five years. The block stays in place after that until you contact GamStop yourself to remove it.
Picking an app
Before you settle on one, install two apps and use them side by side for a week. You will learn more about speed, layout and how the bet slip behaves than any rating can tell you. Then delete the one you liked less, along with the account, so you are not tempted by offers from both.
Two payment notes before you download anything: credit cards are banned for betting in Great Britain, and no licensed UK bookmaker accepts crypto deposits, in an app or on the website. For most punters, the best betting app is a well-rated bookmaker from the top of the table that also streams the sport you watch and makes its limits easy to find.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best betting app in the UK?
Our app ranking sorts licensed UK bookmakers by the average of their App Store and Google Play ratings, so the top spot can change when ratings move. Pick from the top of the table, then check that the app covers the sports you bet on.
Which betting app is best for football?
Look for a strong bet builder, full and partial cash out and live streaming of the games you follow. Our football betting sites page sorts bookmakers by the Premier League prices we measure.
Why are Google Play ratings lower than App Store ratings?
For most bookmakers in our table the Android score sits below the iPhone score. The gap is widest for BetVictor and BoyleSports, while Betfred scores almost the same on both stores.
Can I claim a welcome offer in a betting app?
Usually yes, but not always. William Hill's full terms state that its welcome offer is not available via the mobile app, so read the terms before you sign up on your phone.
Can I set a deposit limit in a betting app?
Yes. Since 31 October 2025 every licensed operator must prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, and since 30 September 2026 gross deposit limits over 24 hours, seven days and a month must be offered.
Do betting apps let me watch live sport?
Most of the big apps stream racing and some football, tennis or basketball, but nearly all ask for a funded account or a qualifying bet first. Check the streaming rules in the app before a big race day.
Can I deposit with a credit card in a betting app?
No. Credit cards have been banned for gambling in Great Britain since April 2020, and that applies in apps as much as on desktop. Debit cards, bank transfer and Apple Pay are common alternatives.
Does GamStop block betting apps?
Yes. GamStop covers every online operator licensed in Great Britain, and that includes their apps. The exclusion runs for six months, one year or five years and does not end by itself.
Is the LeoVegas app a sports betting app?
The LeoVegas UK app is branded as a casino app, and its sportsbook is a smaller section inside it. It also has far fewer ratings than the big sports apps, so its score rests on a small sample.
